During his first address to the United Nations General Assembly, Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten emphasized the importance of defending the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the broader international legal framework. Jetten warned that any attempts to undermine the ICC could potentially weaken the entire international legal order.

Speaking to global leaders, Jetten highlighted the significance of institutions that uphold international law, urging countries to resist efforts aimed at discrediting or diminishing the court’s authority. The ICC, based in The Hague, plays a crucial role in maintaining global justice and accountability, according to Jetten.

The Dutch Prime Minister also addressed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, calling for accountability regarding Russia’s military actions. He acknowledged Ukraine’s right to defend itself against Russia’s continued aggression and reinforced the need for international support in holding Russia accountable for its actions.

Jetten reaffirmed the Netherlands’ commitment to supporting international institutions and the rule of law. He stressed that these frameworks are essential for maintaining global peace and accountability, underscoring the need for collective action to protect and strengthen them.
