by admin477351

Norway has imposed a partial restriction on airspace over Oslo and the Romerike region as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrives for crucial peace talks aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict with Russia. The discussions involve high-level attendees, including Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and US special envoy Steve Witkoff, with Jared Kushner participating remotely.

The talks, scheduled to continue through Wednesday, reflect a concerted diplomatic effort to advance peace initiatives following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Norway and Finland have been supportive of Ukraine, offering financial aid, military cooperation, and participating in broader European security measures.

Norwegian Prime Minister Støre emphasized the need to use these meetings to shift diplomatic efforts toward a more constructive path, ensuring that Ukraine’s interests remain central in discussions about ending the war. The deliberations take place amid persistent Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure, which have intensified Ukraine’s calls for enhanced Western air defense support and sustained international pressure on Moscow.

In addition to meeting with Nordic and European leaders, President Zelensky also held discussions with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. These talks have bolstered hopes in Kyiv for continued American support, particularly concerning potential threats of Russian aggression.

Norway’s decision to restrict airspace underscores the significance of these talks and the heightened security measures taken to facilitate a diplomatic resolution. The political leadership in Norway has highlighted the importance of leveraging this meeting to influence the trajectory of peace efforts and to safeguard Ukraine’s strategic interests.
