In a significant escalation, Russia launched a substantial missile and drone attack on Kyiv early Monday, resulting in at least nine fatalities and injuring 46 individuals, including five children, as reported by Ukrainian officials. The assault caused extensive damage across the Ukrainian capital, with emergency services noting that at least 15 apartment buildings were either damaged or destroyed. Rescue efforts are ongoing, and authorities caution that the death toll may increase.
A particularly devastating strike occurred in Kyiv’s Podilskyi district, where a nine-story residential building was heavily affected. Rescue teams are actively working to free individuals trapped beneath the debris. In addition to the tragedy in Kyiv, another fatality was reported in the Bucha district, located northwest of the capital.
The Russian Defense Ministry has confirmed the execution of what it termed a “massive” operation, involving long-range missiles and drones aimed at military, energy, and airfield infrastructure in Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions. This latest attack follows closely on the heels of another major Russian strike that claimed at least 27 lives in Kyiv, making it one of the deadliest incidents in the city this year.
Amidst these developments, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted ongoing combat around the strategically important town of Kostyantynivka in the Donetsk region. He dismissed Russian assertions that the town had been captured, underscoring the ongoing resistance in that area.
