The Swedish government has launched a comprehensive national inquiry to address the significant increase in ADHD and autism diagnoses among children and young people. Leading this important investigation is Mathias Wahlsten, Director General of the Swedish Unemployment Insurance Inspectorate. The delegation’s task is to thoroughly examine the current situation and provide informed recommendations on strengthening support systems across various sectors, including education, healthcare, leisure activities, and employment transitions. Their findings are scheduled to be presented by December 1, 2027.
Minister for Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed emphasized the importance of this inquiry, stating that its ultimate goal is to ensure that children and young people with neuropsychiatric conditions can access the necessary support to reach their full potential and fully engage in society. With the rising number of diagnoses, there has been a considerable strain on child and adolescent psychiatric services, making it crucial to understand this trend better and improve long-term support mechanisms.
