In the Netherlands, the impact of increased energy prices due to the Iran conflict has so far been moderate on household energy bills. During the first six months of the year, average monthly energy payments hovered around €160, showing resilience against the rising gas prices.
Despite the uptick in gas costs, electricity prices have remained fairly consistent with those of past years. This stability allows numerous households renewing their energy contracts to secure rates near their previous levels, thus maintaining a relatively stable overall cost of energy.
The current scenario is notably different from the energy crisis of 2022, when household energy payments surged following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, fuel expenses have shown a more significant increase. Dutch households spent approximately €765 at petrol stations between March and July, compared to €708 in the same timeframe last year.
The modest rise in fuel expenditure compared to pump price increases indicates that some households might be driving less or opting for more economical fuel stations to better manage their expenses.
